More information: 1962 was the first time that the city of Chicago in the United States dyed the Chicago River green to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day. Ever since then, the city dyes the Chicago River green every Saint Patrick's Day. The authorities use roughly around 45 pounds of green dye to convert the entire color of the river green. This beautiful spectacle is often witnessed by hundreds of thousands of people.
